Since implementation of the Patient Driven Groupings Model (PDGM), CMS has significantly increased the emphasis on quality of care over amount of care, tying payment to outcomes. At the same time, patients are going home sooner, and sicker, than ever before, and continued workforce shortages have further added to challenges in home care delivery. Occupational therapy (OT) practitioners can play many different roles in delivery of home health services by improving efficiency, implementing new administrative requirements, and optimizing outcomes for patients, yet many providers and patients only think of OT when addressing dressing and bathing skills.
