Pain Management Through Non-Pharmacological Approaches

Pain Management Through Non-Pharmacological Approaches is proudly presented to you by National Association for Home Care & Hospice. Thank you. We hope that you enjoy your course.

Therapy professionals are aware of the epidemic use of opioids and non-pharmacological interventions for pain management. In March 2016 the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urged healthcare providers to consider non-opioid therapies for chronic pain. Unfortunately, the older population continues to rely on pharmacological approaches as the first line of defense, impacting overall health, recovery and hospitalizations. Our session will challenge how your agency can leverage your physical therapists to translate their knowledge of pain management into effective clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Compare the impact of pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management in older adults in post-acute episodes of recovery or chronic pain.
  • Identify physical therapy interventions for pain management supported by evidence and physical therapy guide to practice.
  • Explain patient centered care plans demonstrating value and greater outcomes for older adults impaired by pain.
