Surveillance data is an integral component of an effective infection prevention and control program. The recent emphasis on quality assessment and performance improvement has increased the emphasis on preventing adverse outcomes, especially preventable patient infections. Home care organizations need to be prepared for an increased scrutiny of their infection prevention and control surveillance data. This session will review how to conduct risk assessment activities, determine what types of patient and employee surveillance data to collect, measure and monitor infection prevention and control data, and implement a comprehensive surveillance program that meets the intent of the accrediting organizations’ standards and CoP requirements.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe how to establish and implement a comprehensive surveillance program.
  • Integrate infection prevention and control surveillance data into a QAPI program.
  • Prepare for a survey under the Home Health and Hospice Conditions of Participation (CoPs) and Accrediting Organizations’ standards.
