A new rule, Program Integrity Enhancements to the Provider Enrollment Process, was released on September 5, 2019 and is effective November 4, 2019. This rule impacts Medicare home health and hospice providers. It gives CMS the authority to revoke or deny a provider’s Medicare enrollment if CMS determines that the provider has an affiliation that poses an undue risk of fraud, waste, or abuse. CMS will collect information about a provider’s affiliations through new provider disclosure requirements that are part of the enrollment and revalidation processes. This session will provide an overview of the rule, help providers make sense of the complexities, and share tips for how providers can prepare for the rule and take steps to ease the burdens of this new rule. For instance, providers need to determine what information they will need to collect from owners, board members, and staff then determine what part of the information needs to be disclosed to CMS and when.
