Implementing Evidence-Based Practices in Clinical Practice

Evidence-based practices (EBPs) allow providers to combine their experience, client preferences, and up-to-date research into clinical decision-making. The use of EBPs in behavioral health can save time, money, and other resources while ensuring clients get the best possible care. Criticisms of EBPs usually relate to the emphasis on research and fidelity. While most researchers assert that it is important to incorporate flexibility into the implementation of EBPs, it is not always clear how to do this.

This course provides an overview of how treatments become EBPs and how to decide which EBP will work best for your client. It discusses the benefits and criticisms of using EBPs in behavioral health. By reviewing how to incorporate EBPs into clinical practice flexibly within fidelity, this course also highlights efforts to narrow the gap between research and practice.

The goal of this course is to provide skills to addictions, behavioral health counseling, marriage and family therapy, nursing, psychology, and social work professionals in the health and human services setting to implement evidence-based practices into clinical practice.
