Chronic Kidney Disease

Rates of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are increasing at an alarming rate worldwide and represent a growing public health problem. About 37 million people in the United States live with CKD, with millions more at risk (National Kidney Foundation, n.d.a). Patients with varying degrees of renal impairment are seen in all practice settings. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the most common precursors of CKD. Nurses are essential to educate patients regarding the risks, prevention, and early detection of renal impairment to help preserve renal function.

The goal of this course is to provide nurses with an overview of chronic kidney disease and management.
